Neurofeedback: Deep Dive
Infraslow Neurofeedback: Working at the Foundation of the Brain
I use infraslow neurofeedback (ISF) — a powerful form of neurofeedback that directly interacts with foundational rhythms of the brain that all other brain activity rides on.
Because ISF works at this foundational level, it has a whole-brain effect. We initiate treatment by targeting specific symptoms or patterns, all the while supporting global regulation and coordination across the nervous system. Many people notice clear state shifts during sessions, often experiencing increased calm, clarity, or emotional access within the first 1-4 sessions.
This whole-brain effect creates increased neuroplasticity, which means the system becomes more flexible and responsive. As a result, clients often find they have greater access to trauma processing and somatic work earlier in therapy — without pushing, reliving, or overwhelming the system.
Unlike other forms of neurofeedback that may take many sessions before changes are noticeable, ISF often begins supporting meaningful shifts from the start. For many clients, regulation improves first — and from that regulated foundation, deeper therapeutic work becomes possible.
In my practice, neurofeedback is not an add-on. It is the groundwork that allows therapy to move forward with more ease, safety, and effectiveness
Clients typically experience 80% improvement in their primary therapy goals when neurofeedback is central to treatment.
Step 1: A Thoughtful Conversation First
Step 2: A Clear Commitment to Process
Neurofeedback isn’t something we rush into. We begin with a conversation to understand what’s bringing you in, how your nervous system has been responding, and whether this approach is likely to support your goals. This is also a space for you to ask questions and get a clear sense of how I work. Not everyone is a fit for neurofeedback at every stage, and part of my role is to help determine whether this is the right timing and pathway for you.
Infraslow neurofeedback works through consistency and repetition. Most clients attend two sessions per week, with a minimum course of 40 sessions to support lasting nervous system change. This is not a quick-fix intervention, and it’s not designed to push the system. Progress unfolds gradually as the brain learns a new baseline of regulation. Before we begin, we make sure you feel ready to invest the time, energy, and financial commitment this work requires.
Step 3: Regulation First, then Integration
As neurofeedback supports your nervous system in settling, therapy and integration work deepen naturally. Sessions focus on noticing shifts, strengthening regulation, and helping your system make use of increased flexibility and capacity. Some clients continue neurofeedback throughout the process, while others transition as their nervous system stabilizes. The work is paced, collaborative, and guided by what your system can genuinely hold.
